TRAVEL DIARIES - NYC & ICELAND!
It finally happened - Steven and I went on a trip we have been waiting on for many years! To add to the fun, we were accompanied by our friend Cameron, and his brother Brian. After planning this trip for months, Steven sadly ended up getting bronchitis just a week before. I eventually got sick as well, and we basically spent the whole trip coughing and with an on/off fever but that didn’t stop us from having a great time!
Our trip started in New York City which I was just as excited to see as Iceland! We flew to NYC and had the most amazing view on the way in. We met up with Cameron, who lives in Manhattan, and we had a day and a half to explore the city. Cameron showed us just about everything, we walked over 15 miles! We saw the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Central Park, Chinatown, Little Italy, Grand Central Station, and everything in between. Of course we also squeezed in as much food as possible, starting with the best pizza. I really enjoyed just walking through all of the different neighborhoods and taking it all in. I definitely want to go back and spend some more time there!
After exploring the city, Steven, Cameron, and I went to the airport where we met up with Brian, and the 4 of us flew overnight to Iceland! We spent 4 nights in Iceland; 3 of those nights in Reykjavik (after a winter storm kept us from going too far) and 1 night in Vik. We drove the Golden Circle, went to the Blue Lagoon, saw many amazing waterfalls, and went to the black sand beach! We stayed up late most nights hoping to see the Northern Lights but it was too cloudy and we never caught them. As for food, one of the national dishes there is actually a hotdog, and we ate so many of them I don’t think I’ll be able to eat another for a long time. Just like NYC, I really enjoyed our time walking through Reykjavik. The black sand beach and blue lagoon were also favorites! Photos just don’t do it justice.
All in all our first big trip together was a fantastic success! We got to spend it with great friends and in two beautiful places. I hope we will get to visit both of these places again in the future. We are thinking Japan or Scandinavia for our next international adventure but we are always open to ideas!
